MLK Day of Service took place during usual school hours for all SPS students in grades PS – 8th.
K – 8th Grade students will attend a morning assembly, followed by participating in service projects located both on and off campus.
PS and PK students will complete a volunteer project
Our day will concluded with an assembly in the theater for students in K – 8, which all families are invited to attend as well.

We are lucky to have partnered with a variety of organizations for the day. Please take a look at the list below, as well as, the list of items needed to complete the projects.
Seeing Youth Succeed: The SYS Initiative, for youth ages 14 – 18, focuses on the development of work readiness skills, or soft skills through experiential skill-building activities and career exposure. Activities and projects in Entrepreneurship, Media and Technology, and Service Learning empower participants to make connections between their interests, essential skills, and the world of work. The youth leaders of Seeing Youth Succeed (SYS) of Episcopal Community Services will be partnering with St. Peter’s School Upper School students and provide care packages to homeless youth in Philadelphia.

Jane Addams Place: Lutheran Settlement House – In honor of Dr. King, Jane Addams Place, a homeless shelter for women and children, will be looking for volunteers to help out in a variety of service projects and activities for kids on Martin Luther King Day. The project includes arts and crafts. Our MLK Day of Service projects are geared towards making the shelter a better space for our residents.

Good Luck Foundation –  Our Sew A Thon will consist of making bags for girls in other countries who are in need of personal hygiene items.

Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers- Volunteers will rescue native trees from strangling vines and remove invasive plant species from the Wissahickon Valley Park to help preserve and restore the health of the ecosystem of Philadelphia’s largest natural land parks.

Bethesda Broad Street Brunch Service – Bring, prepare and serve brunch at residence for formerly homeless men and women.

ArtSphere – One Art Sphere project at Fishtown Recreation Center and Playground has been an ongoing creative community collaboration since 2005.
